Goodbye Milan, Next stop Barcelona!

It was a quick visit, but I would say Milan was ok. I wouldn't really make it a place to do put on my to do list as there are so many other interesting places in Italy!

From Milan Centrale, we took the Malpensa express to Malpensa airport.

** In advance, be careful of your things on the train!!! **

We got on the train at Milano Centrale, and the train wasn't that packed. When we arrived at the next stop, a lot more people came in. Lee and I were sitting in a 4 seater that was face to face. So Lee and I were facing each other and there were 2 empty seats next to us and 2 men sat next to us. Lee put his backpack on the top racks which he has done in all trains whilst we were in Italy so it was the norm.

Inside the Malpensa Express. That was the backpack that they tried to take!

I would say only put your small luggage cases up top!

The guy next to Lee was holding a suit cover which he put on the top racks as well. I took notice because I thought it was weird that from what I could see, he put it on top of Lee's backpack. The next station arrived, and the guy next to me dropped some coins. Lee and I didn't help him pick them up but when he started to pick them up, he looked at me and kind of gave me a smile/smerk. The guy next to Lee disappeared once the train doors opened. I felt something was fishy and looked up on the racks and realised that Lee's backpack was gone!!! I told Lee, he looked up and I just said to him 'they took it!'

Literally, this whole situation I would say happened in about 3 minutes! Lee said to look after the luggage on the train. I didn't know what to do so I just grabbed the luggage and got out of the train while Lee went after the guys!

I got off, looked around on the platform and there was no one around. So I thought I should go upstairs where there was people around. As soon as I went up the escalator, I saw Lee and yelled his name, and thank goodness I saw him holding his backpack! So lucky too because he was about to hop back on the train so thank goodness I saw him!

When I talked to Lee, he said he was so lucky, he saw the guy in the corner of his eye go up the stairs, and as soon as he saw his bag in the guys hand, he grabbed it and punched the guy in the face! We are so lucky that we got the backpack back!

Let me just say, that I can't believe that it happened to us! Thank goodness I read about these scams before we left for our trip, or we wouldn't have noticed the backpack gone!

So a word of warning, be careful of your things! Keep your important things on your lap at all times! When you hear about organised crime, you don't think it would happen to you! We were just thankful that there wasn't anything of major value in there (like our passports!) These guys were Italian as well so I think that made it worse! It put our dent in our trip so we were a bit excited to carry on our travels to Barcelona!

Until then,
-V
