The Bund - during the day |
Ok sightseeing day! It was a bit of a trek but we walked all the way to the bund. It was an interesting place as it was a mix of east meets west. You could see the influence of European architecture on one side, and a whole heap of new buildings on the other side of the river. We went during the day so we were going to make another trip once the sun went down.
West Nanjing Road. Not enough time to go into all the shops! |
A panoramic view of the buildings on the other side of the bund. Beautiful! |
We wanted to go up the Oriental Pearl Tower, the building that is known to make Shanghai. So to get there (as it was on the other side of the river) we took the Sightseeing Tunnel. I knew from my research that the tunnel was overrated but we decided to go anyway. It was, let me say, pretty hilarious! It was just a whole heap of lights in a tunnel which narration that didn't make any sense! Haha oh well it's all part of the 'experience' I say! We headed off to the Oriental Pearl Tower for views of the city. Although it was a bit smoggy, the skyline was still beautiful, and I knew it was going to look even better at night! They also had a level where the floor was see though. I was still hesitant even when I knew I wasn't going to fall, so I did a couple of on it and jumped straight back onto the normal floors! As we waited for the sun to go down, we had dinner at their revolving buffet restaurant. We kinda have the same thing in Sydney, but the food here was heaps better! I couldn't believe the range that they had! I was so full but it was well worth it! We then headed back to the sightseeing area to get a glimpse of the skyline at night and it was beautiful. From the deck you could see the French concession side, which looked like you were in a city in Europe! It was amazing!

Inside the tunnel. Looks good but it was actually corny! |
The photos make it look heaps better! |

The view from the tower. Still looks amazing with the smog! |
Me of course with the bund in the background |
The see-through glass to the bottom. I was still scared! |

Before we headed back through the sightseeing tunnel back to the other side of the river, we went to the Shanghai History Museum to get some history into us. Back in the day, it looked like a European city and as the decades went on, the mix of Chinese influence started to show in their architecture, clothing and even entertainment. Most of the European structures still exist today.

So, we bought a round ticket to the Sightseeing tunnel and went back into Pudong. I laughed again when we were in the tunnel cause it was hilarious! When we came back to the other side, it looked amazing too. To see their Oriental Pearl Tower light up the night sky was great.

Looks amazing when lit up! |

After another long day, we decided to head back home as my feet were killing too! Tomorrow will be another day of sightseeing and last minute shopping as it will be our last night in Shanghai. It went to quick but time flies when you're having fun!
