Neues Palace: On the grounds on the way to Sanssouci Palace |
This was us on the Autobahn. Heavy rain and traffic! |
Pics of some of the statues up close |
The traffic was so bad on the autobahn, we were standing still for most of the time. But Lee managed to clock speeds of 200 km/h at one stage, even when it was raining so bad! He was so happy! It didn't even feel ilke 200kms to be honest! I would say we averaged a speed of about 160km/h.
Spotted! Clocked at doing 200km/h on the autobahn on a rainy day! |
Because of the traffic we didn't get to see Colditz Castle, and when we got there even when we just wanted to see it all the roads were closed leading towards it. We didn't know what was going on! So we turned around and headed to our final destination which was Dresden.
Road closures to Colditz Castle. Probably due to the rain & flooding |
We checked in, turned on the news and realised that there's flooding around parts of Europe. And for us, we're in it!
We decided to head out and find somewhere to eat. Could you believe it was about 8pm and everything was closed! It was like a ghost town. I wasn't sure if it was because it was Sunday, or if it was raining and no one wanted to be out? We found a place that was open. Food was mediocre but at least we got fed and were somewhere warm. We headed back to the hotel as the weather wasn't that nice, and we had to check out the next day.
It was a fun day I would say. Driving in the car for abut 7 hours which should have only lasted about 3 was funny! We were busting at one stage and went to a petrol station but realised you had to pay 70 cents to use the toilet. What the? We skipped it. So did a lady that we saw outside that was pissing out on the grass in broad daylight. Haha funny!
And the journey continues. Check out tomorrow to see some Dresden sights, then we were off to Prague!
Until then,
-V
