So today was shopping today and it was the day to test our bargaining skills. We started the day off with eating Beijing roast duck - again! This restaurant was recommended by Lonely Planet so I was assuming it was good. We got there and the place was immaculate and when I mean that I mean clean! We were seated to a table even though we didn't have a reservation, so it's good to go when it isn't peak time! The food on the menu looked delicious and because we're only in Beijing once, we decided to make the most of it and ordered a whole heap of food! It was amazing! Not only the food but the quality of service as well. I would recommend the restaurant to everyone!
Yum! One of the best restaurants I have been to. Thanks Lonely Planet! |
Black sesame dessert. So yum! Don't let the colour fool you! |

Now it was time to walk it off and it was shopping at Sanlitun clothing market to see how our bargaining skills went. And I would say that we did alright. They start off with a high price and when I say high it's ridiculous that you just have to laugh. Then they say 'whats your price?' You never answer with what you want to pay. You always ask them what their lowest price is and half it and from there you can reach an agreement. I would say that if you use your charm, they will be nice to you! We managed to get some good things and of course if they're brand named, it's bound to be fake! Was a good experience for sure but I would say that if you're not good at haggling, you can get it for cheaper on eBay! The market took a chunk of our day and we were off to watch an acrobatic show. The problem was trying to hail a taxi in peak hour traffic. It was horrible! No taxis even at the taxi rank they drove past. We tried to talk to so taxi guys and they just waved their hand to say they didn't want to take you, or they just ignored you. Time was ticking and we decided to catch public transport to the theatre. Unfortunately we didn't' make the show so I was heaps upset. Silly Beijing traffic! I seriously estimated for an hour for transit in a cab but we didn't make it at all! So we have to see an acrobatic show hopefully in Xi'an or Shanghai!
Because of that drama we decided to shop a bit more, and caught the subway to silk market. Another market full go tourists. The layout was different, not as 'markety' in a sense as all the stalls were in glass. We didn't really buy anything but we did get our faces moulded onto a chinese wedding outfit. You have to see the picture! I think that was the highlight for the night I think!

The finished product. It kinda looks like us.. I think? |
Oh I can't believe that it has been a week already! Beijing you have treated us well and we will miss you! Now, onto Xi'an!
