Xi'an: Wild big Goose Pagoda & Fountain Show

Well today was a bit of a bludge day and for the first time in our trip we got to sleep in. Hooray! Today I was planning to go take a side trip to the Shaolin Temple, which is about 3.5 hours by train and bus from Xi'an one way. We decided not to go as Lee said that it was out of the way, and from the reviews that I read, it's way too commercialised now, which is kind of sad.

Anyway, we decided to go back to the Muslim Quarter for a bit to do some last minute shopping for pressies. We're kinda getting better with the whole haggling thing. Today we did the walking away thing and it worked haha. Fun fun fun! Whichever city you go to, they're selling the same things but all at different prices. You just need to be good at haggling.

After a bit of shopping, we went back to the hotel to do our washing as we had both run out of underwear so that pretty much took the rest of the afternoon! I know this sounds bad, but I wanted to go inside the Wild big goose pagoda, but I know that it all looks the same from the inside so we decided not to go in but take photos from the outside.

Today was the first time to catch the subway here in Xi'an too. Same as Beijing, but not as busy and no one pushing you around. This chick on the subway pushed past me so I pushed her back. Fun times! We were pushing for time but luckily we made it for the water fountain show, which is meant to be the biggest and the best in Asia. As soon as we got there, it started. It was beautiful as the backdrop was the pagoda. Very commercialised though as with everything else in China. Vendors trying to get you to get your picture done and printed. Too funny! It was a nice way to end our last day in Xi'an.

So it's an early night. We have a 7:30am flight tomorrow so we will be sleeping soon as we have to wake up in 5 hours. Thanks Xi'an we had a great time! Now, off to Guilin & Yangshou!
