It was another easy day today. With the heat, it isn't that convenient to be walking around everywhere. And yes, you can catch taxis everywhere but we love walking around finding things!
First stop was the VietS Corner flea market. It's a cute market tailored more to women, and what was good about this place was that all the prices were fixed so you didn't have to haggle. I found this place on TripAdvisor. The prices were actually quite reasonable. I managed to score myself a pair of nice shoes for 99 dong (about $5AU). It was a very small and tight space, but had some interesting things.
VietS Corner flea market is open on Weekends from 10am-9pm (We made the mistake of going there during a weekday but they were closed - they need to update their Facebook page) | Address: 39F Suong Nguyet Anh, Dist. 1, HCMC (Click here to see it on Google Maps)
We continued to walk to do our second round at Ben Thanh Markets. I don't know, but for some reason the market here didn't really interest me. There are a lot of stalls that were selling the same things, for crazy prices, and yes, you do have to haggle, but I just wasn't in the mood =/ It didn't really look busy either so we decided to give the haggling a miss!
Lee did ask about buying a memory stick and the price was crazy! They initially said 500,000 dong ($25 AU) for a 16gb USB when we can easily get it for $8 AU in Australia! We decided to save our haggling for Thailand (and we weren't disappointed!)
Ben Thanh Markets. It was just ok. |
It was our last night in HCMC, and decided to leave it with a bang by celebrating my birthday at Shri Restaurant and Lounge. I was a bit worried as we did not have a reservation but when we got there it was quiet! The view from above of HCMC was beautiful. They sat us out on the terrace. It was still a bit humid but we got a nice breeze coming through. The food was modern, and there was a nice variety of seafood dishes which we tried. Their cocktails were amazing!
Shri Restaurant and Lounge | Address: 72 Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai 6, 3 Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam (Click here to see it on Google Maps) | Hours: 9:00am - Midnight | View: Awesome | Price: On the 'pricey' scale for Vietnamese standards
It was a great last night in HCMC and it was an awesome introduction to Vietnam. Next stop, Hoi An!
Until then,
-V
