At Trastevere Train station, waiting for a train to go to Florence |
We had a great time in Rome, but it was time to carry on with our travels to Florence.
I love google. I always google where we have to be and any problems we might face before we end up in our next destination. I read before we left, that Roma Termini station was busy as! And to also watch out for Taxi rip offs (which we didn't catch anyway), and people trying to assist you with boarding your train!
Firstly, we booked our tickets from Roma Trastevere to Roma Termini. You had the option of choosing first of second class. Let me just say don't even bother paying extra for first class because everyone just sits wherever. There's no order! So we paid first class tickets to stand in a corridor. So save your euro and just get second class!
When we got to Termini Station, we go there early (which I would rather) so we got a bite to eat first. When looking for your regional train on the board, sometimes the platform number doesn't even show! I would recommend looking at the Departures posters that are stuck up everywhere. It's easier to look for the time of your train rather than your destination. Like in our example, we were on the way to Firenze, but the final destination was Venezia. So always check the time you leave. The departure posters also show the platform (unlike the boards) so you can always find your train that way.
I read that there's people that talk to you at the station asking if you need help. If they're not in uniform, don't even consider it. They're there for your money and that's it! We were hounded about 3 times. All you need to say is no and keep walking. We saw about 3 couples get conned. The men ask you what carriage you're in. They help with your luggage, they find your seat, then ask for a payment. Initially some will say something small. Then when they're finished with you they double the amount. And they don't leave until you pay them! It's horrible. It's easy to find your way yourself. Your ticket has your coach number (and the coach numbers are located on the actual train doors and on the boards above on the platform), and your allocated seat numbers are also on the ticket.
When we got in the train, I was impressed for a second class carriage. It was quite comfortable. Monitors above that shows the progress of where you are now, the time, and how fast you're going. Very clean as well. So far i would definitely recommend catching the train around Italy rather than driving or catching the plane! It was a very pleasant journey!
Impressed! Liking the interior of the train |
Luggage space at the ends of each carriage |
Even a reading lamp! |
Another day ahead. Once we settle in, we're going to be roaming the streets of Florence!
Until then,
-V
